Giraffes have a life span of about 25 years. Since giraffes are very strong, powerful animals they are not usually targeted by prey. So they do usually have the chance to live a full life term. Sometimes Giraffes do fall to being preyed on by lions, hyenas and leopards. Crocodiles have now been known to prey on giraffes as well when their defense is down, while being bent down drinking water. Only a quarter of the calves born actually make it to adulthood for they are vulnerable. Giraffes are susceptible to many diseases. Giraffes also become targeted by ticks that will feed off of them.Giraffes usually have yellow billed ox-peckers who remove the ticks.
